2/18/2019 – Betty F. Jetty, Formerly of Port Byron

Mrs. Betty F. Jetty, 90, died Friday, February 15th, in Sunderland, VT, where she resided for the past 4 years with her daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter whom she fondly referred to as “Gwennie Bear.” At her request, there will be no calling hours or funeral.

There will be a Graveside Committal Service in the Spring at a time to be announced in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Port Byron, followed by a Celebration of Life at a place to be announced.

Betty was born August 12th, 1928, in Pompey, NY, the daughter of Alfred and Hazel Peterson Ferris. She graduated from Port Byron High School at age 16.

On March 11, 1950, she married Milford (Mish) Jetty in Throop, NY with the Reverend Payson Derby officiating. Mish, a WWII Marine Veteran, passed away in December of 2000.

She was a telephone operator for over 35 years for New York Telephone Company in Auburn, N.Y., retiring April 29th, 1983. For many years after her retirement, most people will know her as the voice of the answering service for T.R. Jetty Funeral Home, where she enjoyed talking to many people.

Betty was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and of the John Cool Post 257 American Legion Auxiliary in Port Byron.

All her life her greatest love was spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including taking them to amusement parks. She also enjoyed garage “shopping,” antiques, and was an avid Yankees fan.

Surviving are her daughter Arden Jorolemon of Sunderland, VT; two sons, Randy (Diane) Jetty of Port Byron, NY, and Terry Jetty and his companion Heather Delaney of Clayton, NY; six grandchildren, Mary Jo (Eric) Norfolk of Apex, NC, Rick (Dawn) Jorolemon of Port Byron, NY,  Jessica (Tammy Shupka) Jorolemon McGowan of Sunderland, VT, Sara (Jacob) Haremza of Sunderland, VT, Eric Jetty of Clayton, NY, and Shauna (Derek) Sherboneau of Clayton, NY; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; Sister in Laws, Fern Fowler Greene, Velma Thompson, both of Auburn, and Janet Mills of Rochester; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mish, Betty was pre-deceased by a son in law, Dick Jorolemon, of Port Byron, NY, a daughter in law, Laurie Jetty, of Clayton, NY, and two sisters Thelma Gianni, and Mildred Reed.

Donations can be made in her name to the Port Byron Volunteer Fire Department.
